The Law of Attraction: What Do You Really Want?

One of the many challenges in bringing the Law of Attraction into effect in your life is determining what you really want. You have to be able to focus on a clear goal (or set of goals). It is okay to start out a little bit vague, but you want to get as specific as possible as quickly as possible. You are looking for an ever clearer picture of your desired outcome.

The next challenge comes from the difference between surface thought and deep structures in the mind (sometimes referred to as the conscious mind and the sub-conscious mind). Ultimately, you want to imprint what you wish to achieve so deeply in your own mind that you come to a point where your goal is always in the background. You want it to be part of your subconscious programming. When you make the goal a part of you on a deep level, you will constantly be broadcasting that goal out to the people you meet and the universe in general.

We can say that we want something, but if we have been directing our awareness against it for years, then on a deep level, we are still broadcasting old programming. It’s as if our subconscious mind ‘wants’ the opposite of the new goal.

As an example, I can’t tell you how many women I’ve spoken to that have the dream of meeting that one special person and settling down, but have only a vague notion of it. On the other hand, they have a very vivid image of becoming an ‘old maid’, or a ‘spinster’. They usually even have a good friend with whom they often joke about becoming old maids together. There is nothing wrong with this kind of humor, but if you put more mental energy into this (unwanted outcome) than you put into your desired outcome, which do you think you’re going to get?

When you first begin to redirect your focus, there will probably be quite a bit of pre-existing programming that you will have to overcome. With only visualization, this can take quite a while, but persistent practice will pay off. There are also many ways to speed up the process, including energy work, NLP, hypnosis, etc. One of the easiest ways, though, is with the use of mindfulness meditation.

To access your subconscious with mindfulness, you have to start by accepting it. Close your eyes. Mentally state your goal. Picture it. Hear what you will hear, and feel what you will feel when you have achieved it. Notice any resistance that comes up. Let it go. The typical instinct is to resist. Accept it! Allow it to be… allowing it to flow (let your body relax as well). Once you begin to experience the pictures, sounds, and feelings of resistance or failure as a flow or a wave, then you can begin to redirect them. There is no resistance, just redirection.

This is a paradox: the more you resist the experiences (in the now or in the future) you want to avoid, the less control you have over them. The more you accept this moment and your concepts of future, the more you take on the power to direct these experiences as you see fit.

Once you deeply accept yourself as you are, then you can experience truly powerful change!
